Is your pet or animal microchipped? Fall Special!

Is your pet microchipped?

Microchips are a great way to increase the chances of your pet being safely returned to you if lost or stolen. Microchips are smaller than a grain of rice and once inserted are almost impossible to feel with your hands. However, they contain valuable information that can be read by a variety of microchip readers and can help trace that animal back to its owner. Almost all veterinarians, animal shelters, and animal control officers have a microchip reader to scan animals with. Although most people know that microchips are common in dogs and cats, it has become increasingly common to place microchips in other animals such as horses, llamas, and alpacas.

There are a few very important factors to keep in mind once you have your animal microchipped. In our practice, the microchips that we place come with a prepaid lifetime membership certificate. However, many people forget to fill out the paperwork and send it in to the microchip manufacturers database. Please make sure to fill out the registration and send it in, otherwise your microchip may not be doing you any good! Also, if you have moved or changed mailing addresses since having your microchip placed, make sure to contact the microchip company and have your information updated. There may be a small fee for updating your information, but this could be the difference in whether you get your pet back or not.
