Artificial grass?

I have been seeing more and more use of this as western states get real about drought. Artificial grass has really come a long way from the old stuff. Our backyard, I use that term loosely, is not that big - maybe the flat area in question is about 30 feet x 20 feet. It never really does very well and I don't want to put down a bunch of soil (it is almost down to granite in places) and seed it and then have to water it, especially with the dry winter. I am thinking a nice layer of sand and then a nice, don't have to water or cut artificial lawn might be just the ticket.

Has anyone done this up here? any pros and cons and things to be aware of? also any good experiences with companies would be appreciated.

Need to clean it with water. It also collects bacteria.
