The U.S. Forest Service says Colorado's fire danger will rapidly increase over the next few days. The winds bringing smoke from fires in Arizona are also bringing hot weather and the potential for dry lightning strikes. Some parts of the state could see single digit humidity levels.
The fire danger fo the southern Front Range will be high to extreme. While the fire danger in the northern Front Range will be moderate, humidity levels will still be very low.
Many Colorado firefighters are working the large fires in Arizona but resources have been held back to make sure crews can respond to a fire here. Dry thunderstorms have been known to touch off as many as 20 fires in one day.
