9 Colorado High Schools Make ‘Newsweek’s’ Best List

How did Conifer make the list, seriously? I am now dreadfully curious. Because they had a students graduate with college credits this year? That can happen at any high school. Because one graduated with his AA as well at the same time? Again, that can happen at ANY school. In fact, in Iowa, the student was automatically assigned the college credit without paying any fees for it if they took the coursework, because Iowa views their community colleges as an extension of the school system, unlike here.

And that all reflects on the STUDENTS, not the school.

Was it the sheer number of graduates? That reflects upon the income level of the area. Kids from higher income homes are statistically shown to have less teen pregnancies, lower drop out rate, and less likely to have to leave school to help support the family. Again, this is not a reflection of the quality of the school, this is a reflection of the average income of the community.

I'm honestly, truly baffled that Conifer made the list.

It looks like the criteria were strictly numbers - class size, percentage graduating, percentage going to college, # of AP/IB tests, etc. They are 434 of 500; I wonder how many they examine total (if that's out of tens of thousands, that's impressive).

But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

Yes out of 10,000 schools reviewed, 9 of the top 500 are from Colorado including right here in Conifer at 434. So our high school is in the top 4.4 percent in the nation. I am proud of our little community!

Vouchers are to help students at the bottom of the list that are being warehoused to prepare them for a life of failure.
