As I mentioned in a previous post, I come from a long line of knitters and crocheters. Over the last couple of weeks, Mom and I have been going through old pictures and found this newspaper clipping tucked in the back of their wedding album. It was in the Detroit Free Press in September 1970, taken at the Michigan State Fair. The picture is me (age 9), my mom, my grandma Betty and my great grandma Lucille (she never was a Lucy). My mom, who was an ace at the fiber and sewing arts, had entered a handknit cranberry red mohair cape and hat. She also had sewn all of our outfits (No laughing at the jumpsuits - it was the 70's!)
I imagine the reporter "posed" us (hence my start-off-into-space-serious-face), and likely told them all to look down at me - but doesn't it look like my mom just popped me one on the head?
Here's the article text (I took the liberty to correct the spelling of our last name - it was a doozy, so can't really blame the reporter):
"Fair Family
The Michigan State Fair was a funfest for these four generations from Clarkston who made the fair scene together. Sally Sobocienski (foreground) is picture with (from left) her grandmother, Mrs. Betty Spratt, her great grandmother, Mrs. Lucille Shelton, and her mother, Mrs. Diane Sobocienski. Mrs. Sobocienski shows off her second-prize winner, a handknit cape and hat. Each is wearing a handmade outfit."
Jeez, makes me wonder what the heck took first prize!
(Also, p.s., don't forget there's a sale at the Knit Knook today!)

That is pretty kewl! Nice four generation picture! When I was 10, 11, & 12, I was entering my knitting and sewing in the Dodge County Fair in Wisconsin. I also won a first place ribbon for the poncho I knit. Crazy enough, I still have that poncho stashed away in a trunk.
Isn't it fun going through old photos and things?
Ok, I think a photo of the poncho is required here!
The photos have definitely been fun and brought back some good memories - very good for the healing process and gives us a chance to laugh.

And yet, you both look younger than I do. Doesn't seem quite fair......

CG, hopefully you find time to squeeze in just a little bit - it really does help with the stress levels (hence my tagline). Think of it as therapy and put it on your calendar, like an appointment with yourself. Even 15 minutes at least takes the edge off, you know it will!
