My theory on Pine-cones

20 Jul 2011 13:07 #1 by Wily Fox aka Angela
In years past, I have noticed that when the trees are producing MANY pine-cones, the coming winter will be colder/snowier than usual.

Judging by our trees, there are a TON O PINE-CONES this year!

I look forward to correlating your observations Wily! :)

And I've always done it by measuring the height of the Mullein. LOL

Looks as if they are all on your Doug Fir trees. Ponderosa haven't produced anymore than last year.
However I have 1 than makes a million it seems every year.

Wanna buy some?

I use mine for fire starters in the wood stove. Works great.

Mullein are damn tall this summer too.

I can handle a snowy winter. My well can handle a snowy winter.

Here's one of our grey squirrels cuttin' pine-cones and dropping them. He gets a bunch and then runs down and gets 'em and stashes 'em somewhere that he most likely will forget where by the time winter arrives.
