Q: Recently I moved to Colorado. Often I see mentions of "Dougco," home of a school board that can't read the state constitution, and "Jeffco," whose courthouse is sometimes called the Taj Mahal. But search as I might on my official state map, I can't find Dougco or Jeffco. Where are they?
A. Just remember, we live in an era when most Americans can't spell "applications," so they talk about "apps."
"Dougco" saves us the trouble of having to remember how to spell "Douglas County," which sits south of Denver, and "Jeffco" serves the same purpose for "Jefferson County," which sits west of Denver.
