Mount Evans Highway from Summit Lake to the Top to Close Next Week for the Winter

August 31, 2011 - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – On Tuesday morning, September 6th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close the upper portion of Mount Evans Highway (State Highway 5) between Summit Lake and the top of Mount Evans until late spring 2012.

The five-mile segment of SH 5 lies above 14,000 feet and is prone to early snowfall that could cause difficult winter driving conditions. As a result, this segment closes in early September to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

The remainder of the segment between Summit Lake and Echo Lake is scheduled to close on Monday, October 3rd unless severe weather conditions dictate an earlier closing.
