HELP --- GOOGLE Blocked

I admit - I really like google..... It's my start page, my finish page, and my intermediate page.

Last night, I was using Google to look for a shooting school in Arizona.

I thought I found one - but there was something on the page that wreaked havoc on my computer.

(there was a re-direct to a page in Russia, and the re-direct later ended up on a crude youtube page).

From that point forward, the machine has no search page capabilities. (sounds like a DNS block)
(start page works, but none of the other services work).

We use search pages for a lot of purposes in colleges (for example - we can search for a relatively unique sounding passage in a paper to see if it's been copied).

I use it to look for highway cams (is there snow between home and Aspen?)

Any ideas what hit the computer?

I ran checks with Malware Bytes and MS Forefront (nothing found).

Other symptoms:
Colorado Department of Labor page jams (says "Waiting for Google" on the bottom)
285Bound is slow (says "waiting for google-analytics.com on the bottom)

Seems like there's a google block sitting somewhere on my machine.

Do you have virus protection? It seems like it should have picked it up and blocked it.

If you have virus protection, I'd run a scan of your computer.

Here's something I found that may help:

Don't access any personal financial sites until you get rid of it. It could have a key logger.

I have a few layers of protection on my computer - including Avast and Forefront.

Have also run a Malwarebytes scan (nothing).

All I know is that just about every page on this planet has some google content - and the system blocks are grinding just about everything to a halt.

I can get around some of the block by using startpage (a proxy-based search).

What browser are you using, and have you tried using a different one?

It sounds more like you have a trojan than a virus, you might try starting your computer in safe mode, then see if you can use google through your browser.

the google content is blocked in Chrome, as well as IE.

This tells me that the block is outside of the browser.

I can access the google start page using this:

well - I fixed the problem by doing a system restore.......

There's a setting somewhere in the registy that was blocking google-related content.

I also reset IE settings - and the system is flying!

I should check this thread more often - I've been pulling my hair out for days and hadn't been able to fix the problem. I seem to have google back. Thanks, bb.
