we looked but the hidden fee's etc add up to more and some just don't work.
But can't you guys eliminate your land line and just use your cells?
We can't so we are stuck. And we tried the progresso cans and string but the deer and elk kept breaking them.
Off topic how much snow you get? I have a client on the other side that always wants it plowed if we get 3" or so. we only have 1" and most of that melted with the sun.
We have about 6 inches here. You may get to plow.
I talked to Vonage and after calling back several times to talk to someone in the US....I had the distinct feeling that if I wasn't careful, I would see some hidden charges.
We could let the home line go but the business line is a little tougher. I have had the same number for almost 20 years. We still have to keep the DSL to use the cells here.
If you can get Comcast where you are, I highly recommend them. (Don't laugh at this one ) We bundled phone plus Internet and cable back in June and are saving substantial $$$$. I work from home and love the Internet speed.
Vonage will screw you if they get the chance - as in empty your bank account, even if you don't owe them money. I would avoid them like a plague.
I lowered my bill with qwest (yeah, I'm still gonna call them that for now) by calling and asking about newer plans. Lo and behold, they have plenty they never advertise, but you have to ask about, skeezy way of doing business, but with no cell coverage at home, lots of us are stuck.
My wife and I are in the same boat, like others in this area, who don't live near more developed communication lines. I looked at several VoIP services, but all had less than average reviews, especially Vonage. I used CNet to get most of my information and Skybeam has been very good for internet only. They indicated their VoIP was not the best and we opted out. We used to have Comcast in Denver, but they were so darn expensive at that time and simply did not like the TV service, but the internet speed was phenomenal.
I read a piece in this weeks The Flume about construction work on 285 at Pine. It stated that Century Link was upgrading their fiber optic lines to improve service. Not sure what or how this may impact our area.
I'm in Woodside and just got a letter today saying CenturyLink is upgrading us to 7mbps service starting Dec 22nd!
So far as cutting cost goes, give them a call and ask to speak to a "customer loyalty" person. Mention you see that new internet customers get it for just $20 a month. You should be able to cut your bill by at least $20 a month.
So far a VoIP goes, we use Ooma which you can buy at Costco. It's rated high by Consumer Reports and works pretty well for us, though there is still occasional muddy sound and some lag. Hopefully the 7mbps service will help it as well.
