Time for a new MFP, need suggestions?
Fax- only once in a whille
Copy more often than Fax
Color yes print photos, once in a while.
number of copies per month < 100 Don't need very high speed.
connection; prefer wireless or ethernet. (other than the phone line for fax of course)
Current printers Cannon FaxPhone Laser (USB port died during the last power hit)
HP 1200 color ink jet (only works sporadically)
Mine doesn't have fax capability, but maybe the next model up does (and shouldn't you be up with the times - scan it and add an electronic signature!): the Cannon MP640R. It's an inkjet and we use it a lot for photos, and it produces professional looking brochures and flyers for me so I'm totally happy with it.
I'll see if I can dig around and find my Consumer Reports issue that covers printers and let you know what they recommend (this might take me a bit, I don't know where we've hidden them!). pineinthegrass often mentions CR too, so he might have quicker access to that info.
Hope that helps!

But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
I have been through more than my fair share of fax machines and printers.
I am currently using an HP Office Jet. Very nice performance but I priced the cartridges the other day and they were pricy. I seem to go through the ink cartridges slower on this printer than any I have ever used before though.
It can fax, copy and scan. I scan all my tickets with my business and the program it uses to do that is very user friendly. The step up above mine is a wireless unit. They are very cool.
I would recommend the HP Office series at a high level.
Be prepared for a jump in price for the wireless capability.
We are running a HP Officejet pro 8500 wireless. It has print, pdf, jpg file creation, fax, copy capabilities. We do not use the fax, but use the print, copy pdf and jpg creation capabilities consistently. Offers high quality color prints on demand, and photo quality with the appropriate paper. Very satisfied.
All in one HP office jet has been pretty good. My color ran out along time ago and I just use it with the black cartridge, have to set printer settings for grayscale only, Black and white.
BW Cartridges are around $30. Wireless would be nice to have, my old one is USB.
Keep mine covered with a t-shirt to keep the dust out, seems to help.
We have a newer Kodak printer also, works good for color pictures.

Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.
I have HP for work & home and like them fine. My home printer came with some decent programs but I prefer to use Adobe Photo-shop. Never was a fan of Lexmark or Brother.
I have used all kinds of HP Office Jet printers. I got tired of the print heads going bad and the cost of ink. This year we switched to an Epson Workforce and the print quality is amazing and the ink usage is lower.
When you look around places that print high end graphics, they all use or have Epson printers.
