Horses are property so it does take some legal hoops to jump through but I am glad they did this.

Those poor animals. I hope they pull through and get the love they deserve!

Does anyone else see a trend here? Having previously had a very bad experience with Park County Animal Control I have to wonder if all these abused animals that are being found isn't partly a result of a department that (in my experience) refuses to do their job. I reported severly abused horses next door for years and they refused to do a thing about it. Finally a vet was called by one of my other neighbors and he called horse rescue who took most of them away. This was a situation where their were many animals at this location being left without food or water. When I called Park County they sent a Sheriff to my house to accuse me of trespassing and never did anything about the animals. If this is the way that they are handling other calls no wonder we see the stories constantly on abused animals in Park County.

Press Release: Possible Abused Horses at Echo Valley Ranch
Park County Sheriff

The Park County Sheriff’s Office received information about possibly abused horses at the Echo Valley Ranch in Northern Park County.

Code Enforcement deputies responded to the Ranch. Upon investigation and after conferring with the State Veterinarian’s Office and three other Vets it was decided it is in the best interest of the horses to leave them at Echo Valley Ranch and continue their treatment regiment at that location. We concur with the recommendation of those veterinarians

We will continue to monitor the situation including visiting the horses every other day. Our Code Enforcement Division is very experienced and well trained in dealing with these types of situations. The case is under investigation by the Park County Sheriff’s Office.

On a side note, does our Sheriff ever give out information to the public? Or does just the under-sheriff? Is Fred still around?

I know from the videos that I have seen of the starving horses (one was a 2 year old colt for cripes sake) that 2 and possibly all 3 of the Vets were from Aspen Creek Veterinary Hospital.

It is a sad trend that people fall on hard times and the animals that they own or care for suffer for it. It is also a sad trend that the Sheriff Departments (both Park and Teller County) need to become involved. I don't think that law enforcement wants to get involved in these cases unless they need to. In this case, Routt County LEOs made Park County LEOs aware of the situation. Did the neighbors, friends, relatives or business associates of these horse owners realize what was going on? If so, why did they remain silent? Did the owners seek help? How can you let an animal under your care get in such a bad situation?

On one hand you have folks that don't want law enforcement entering their property, so they won't be able to see the neglect/abuse. On another hand you have people that don't trust law enforcement to do the right things so they won't report it. If and when law enforcement does show up it is often too late for some of the animals.

I admit there seems to be a big inconsistancy to their responses in separate cases.
