Ever wonder what you’ll be when you grow up: a butcher, a baker, a candlestick maker?
Why not be a HERO!
Elk Creek Fire Department Explorers Post 1948 is now accepting applications for membership! This is an opportunity for you to learn about the fire and emergency medical services. Train with professional firefighters and emergency medical personnel. Learn the skills and science behind fighting house and forest fires. Use self-contained breathing apparatus. Find out how firefighters train to deal with Hazardous Materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction. Feel the excitement of rushing to the scene of an emergency to help members of your community. Learn 1st Aid and CPR, skills that might help you save a life. It’s fast paced, it’s fun, and you will never look at emergency services the same way again!
Participating in Explorers gives you valuable insight into the firefighting profession, and will allow you to decide if a career in fire or medical service is right for you. The training you receive and skills you learn will help you to be more confident and self-reliant. You’ll discover the value of volunteerism and experience the personal satisfaction and pride that come from helping others in your community.
Explorer candidates must be high school students, grades nine through 12, with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Applicants should be physically capable of performing the tasks required of a firefighter trainee (a similar level of fitness as would be required for participation in school sports).
Explorers will attend two meetings per month: One weekday evening training at Elk Creek Fire Department, Station 1, and a one weekend day activity each month. Activities will be conducted at Elk Creek Fire facilities or off-site locations.
