State's Potential Liability In JeffCo Fire Is $600K Max

It's kind of easy to second-guess the state.

Look at the weather on the day they started the "controlled" burn.
(March 19). The foothills were slated for snow showers, and temps in the low 30s/high 20s.
(that's not what really happened, unfortunately).

In any event, if I was reading the March 19 weather forecast, I likely would have authorized a burn, too.

Joe, we already do have damage caps here (on cases not involving the gov't), the insurance lobby being very strong in Colorado!

One of the stations has a link to the actual prescribed burn paperwork. It's a pdf file. I'll go back and see if I can find it again.

How about they have to do like individual homeonwers in Parkco must do - have some snow on the ground before having a burn.

March is usually a windy month. It is just stupid to be doing anything when it is so dry out - government or individual.

Several years ago, don't remember the name of the fire, but the USFS, not the State Forest Service, did a burn during the winter in the Lost Park Wilderness and it reignited months later.

There has to be more responsibility taken after the burns or don't do them. Use a chipper instead. Better air to breathe that way too!

I find it interesting that the very same posters who rail against the ability of ordinary citizens to seek damages from corporate misdeeds want unlimited liability against taxpayers.

I find it interesting that you rarely add anything substantial or intellectual to the discussions. :)

I don't think anyone on the thread wants unlimited liability.

And what substantial or intellectual discussion did you just add?

Several posters have stated that they do not want limits on liability in this instance.

Well, maybe you should re-read the thread. Most everyone agreed on caps of some amount.
