I saw this product demostrated on the news this morning it is pretty cool (no pun intended).
They talked about putting it in the bombers in the future and the man put his hand in the product then held a blow torch to his hand and did not get burned.
I've heard pros and cons. The pro is that it apparently does work if applied correctly. The cons are that it is expensive, perishable, and dries out after a certain amount of time and then it is no longer effective. The way it was explained to our Firewise group by a representative of Elk Creek Fire is that you have to spray it on your house (mixed with water) before the fire comes through. It takes a lot of water. In a wildfire situation your electricity will be off and so you may not have your well pump with which to spray it on. And then of course you have to spray it on well before you evac so there's a good chance that it'll dry and be ineffective. Our speaker told us that some manufacturers will tell you to leave the cans in your driveway and the fire dept. will spray it on - this is false. The firefighters don't have the time to futz around with it.
I understand that some of the new products address some of these shortcomings, but it's still expensive stuff and perishable.
Given all that, my personal opinion is that you'd be better off with asphalt roofing and shingles (Hardeeboard type), and a good defensable space around your house.
