Hundreds of products with red coloring have this color additive. Starbucks is being targeted becuase of the shock-value, but information regarding the use of these beetles has been widely known for better than a decade. I'm a little surprised they agreed to this additive knowing the potential it had, but maybe they're going off of that "bad publicity is still publicity" mantra, huh?
I am sure we all eat crap that is much more displeasing that we are unaware of. Did you know they used to put spider eggs in Bubble Yum to make it more elastic? :Whistle

No wonder their drinks are so expensive, they have to import ground up bugs from South America to get the right color! I wonder what's in their other products, monkey brains?

I was guessing that the "milk" and "cream" they use was some other sort of sputum that could contribute the protien component of their drinks... I guess we just have to chalk it up to bug parts and other stuff.
