The Mayans created their calendar before the Gregorian calendar that is used in the world today. The Mayans did not account for "leap year". There have been over 500 leap days since they started being added to the calendar and if you remove them from time it would currently be June/July of 2013...which means the Mayan date of Dec 21 2012 has already passed and the world did not blow up.

Interesting theory but wouldn't Indian calendars be more focused on seasons and months than actual days? The Mayan calendar ends on a equinox not a month end. Personally I like the theory that they just ran out of room for new dates. BTW little will happen on that day.

Not expecting anything on that day. I am more concerned about current world events. Best to be prepared for any eventuality.
