We were in Vegas for Y2K and had a blast many of the stories on the news showed people buying up water and things like beans (wonder if they have eaten them all by now)?
Guess the way I see it is do I really want to be around if it does happen.
We are what I would consider pretty prepared to go without power for quite some time we have a generator hooked up for all the important stuff in the house. Have plenty of food in the pantry and if need be we can cook on the wood stove we did in 2003 when we weren't using the BBQ.
I guess what I don't see is the people who spend $100000.00 or more preparing for this.
Martin you eat the dried stuff? Yuck... all the ones I have tasted are gross what is Mtn House?
I don't hunt but I know my brother and his buddies take real food with them. I get jealous when they tell me what they ate while hunting. Each guy takes his turn cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner kind of like we do when we go camping with a bunch of people.
Some of the best food I have ever eaten was on camping trips.
Oh we eat real good when we hunt but as far as dried Mtn House is the best.
we usually make meals up before we leave home but a friend introduced us to mtn house and I was very impressed.
Works because you already pack water in and then you don't need to pack alot of weight of prepared foods, or bulk.
We still bring elk steaks, antilope, moose, etc which is the staple of camp but the dried stuff works good for a real quick no hassle no clean up type meal.
After hiking or hunting all day, that Mountain House looks pretty good.
Personally I don't think the world will end on December 2012, but I am planning that way!
My version of SHTF won't be a giant calamity, more of what we are seeing these days, more boarded up shops, abandoned homes, cars getting older, higher unemployment, more debt.
Denver will start looking more like Detroit, etc.
