Just curious, how else would they get him out? I sure wouldn't climb up there and try to talk him into it!

Whoever got this shot was in the right place at the right time - that's a one-of-a-kind. I hope it isn't inclined to return to the city again.

when a bear climbs a tree here, it because it is fearful. When the danger subsides, they climb back down and head out.

Yes, but there's a big difference between climbing a tree up in the woods and down in the city. The wildlife employees who responded to the presence of the bear can't just stand around all day waiting for the bear to feel it's safe enough to come down, and then trust that it knows how to exit the city, or not harm a citizen in the process if it gets scared again - that's a waste of time, money, resources, and unnecessary risk to the wildlife employees and public, wouldn't you say?

when I posted I was responding to the picture, I did not read the story, so I did not know WHERE the bear was only that it climbed a tree and they tranquilized him.

Ahh, gotcha, that makes sense then. Yes, if it were in the woods, definitely leave it alone and let it come down on its own.

Bears coming into the Boulder for food in April, it's been way too dry and warm this spring! The 9 news story on this little 200-ish pound fella indicates that a lady was feeding a parking meter when this bruin ran up behind her and brushed her legs. At first she thought it was a dog but then she got a better look, I bet a change of panties was required post haste!

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

I'm pretty sure that the bears regard themselves as the top of the food chain, name any other animal that would be foolish enough to go one on one with a fully grown black bear (ok, excepting the Wundermutt).

At the same time I wouldn't want to have a bear just hanging out in a tree in an urban center, imagine all of those tiny "mop" dogs and cats that would go missing!

Too bad it was so close to the dorms. Not sure if it was Boulder, but a bear did climb up in the tree and they left it alone and it climbed down during the night. Too bad they couldn't do that for this one. But better tranquilized than killed.

lol MEI Last year we came across a mother bear and two cubs. They must not have heard us talking. When we turned the corner we could hear some huffing and knew without looking that it was a bear. The two little ones scampered up a tree and just watched us. We backed away very slowly. Cubs stayed up in the tree and the mother rested below the tree for quite a few hours.

Do you have the really big cinnamon colored bruin? Not your average big, monster big. Saw him once in Burland when he was raiding a dumpster. Some of his time spent in Ravenswood but he has been spotted more frequently further west.
