Drought Could Be Worse Than Year Of The Hayman Fire

Much of Colorado’s fire risk is due to drought conditions settling in over much of the state, and this week Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a major water conservation bill into law.

It’s shaping up as one of the driest years Colorado has seen in a long time. In fact, it could be one of the worst droughts in 10 years, according to the state climatologist. Snowpack is just seven percent of normal, meaning low stream flows. And temperatures are 10 degrees warmer than normal.

I :faint: when I see folks laying sod up here. Sad to say that there will definately be some sick or dead fish in some local streams this year. Look for watering restrictions to pop up sooner than you think. Thank gods I have no time for a garden this year.

Thanks for the links. Wow. It will be interesting to see what kind of restrictions are put in place. I remember years ago a number of Burland residents getting tickets for watering their grass when they had in house use only wells. Maybe that was 2002?

If streams are going to be lower this year, maybe it will be an opportunity to clean them up. Wonder if that means that Dillon will pass through less water to the North Fork of the South Platte?

It's not good news no matter how you slice it. We need lots of rain this summer!

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
