Because wildfire is more common from May to October, most of us are seasonally employed. More than 90% of us return year after year and we often work the equivalent of a full year in 6-7 months. Despite this -- and despite putting our lives on the line every day- we still don’t have the opportunity to buy into a government health care plan even at the most basic level.
Generally part time or seasonal workers get short changed on benefits of all kinds. Maybe a solution would be a pro-rated benefit package based on hours worked vs. full time. There is no simple answer, but benefits are really part of overall compensation. I am surprised if they are on a government payroll and get no health insurance at all. That's weird. Its probably Bush's fault.
