The July 4 fireworks show planned in the city of Steamboat Springs has been cancelled due to high fire danger. City Fire Chief Mel Stewart told the Steamboat Pilot & Today on Monday that the city doesn't want to risk ending up with a fire. The last time Steamboat's July 4 fireworks show was cancelled was in 2002, when similar dry conditions existed.
The fire chief of Clear Creek Fire Authority issued a fireworks cancellation order for the City of Idaho Springs and the Town of Georgetown. Normal daytime Fourth of July celebration activities are still on, however neither areas will have firework displays
I watched a Castle Rock fireworks display a long time ago go wrong and the whole mountain caught on fire. Pretty embarrasing for the CRFD. But at least they had firefighters available to fight it.
