Question about National Guard?

When do they get called in to help fight the fires?

If I remember right during Hi-Meadow and Hayman I saw many truckloads of soldiers on 285.

Maybe they are already helping out and they just have not talked about it much.

That is something the governor has to order I believe. JF mentioned this morning that 8 more military units were expected to be called up to assist with fires across the country. That must be approved through congress.
I know that they are deployed to the High Park Fire.
CO Springs is loaded in military with the Air Force Academy and Fort Carson.
I believe the Academy is helping to some degree with the Waldo Fire as it is burning just off their property.
There is an excellent scanner feed on radio reference for the Waldo fire.

Scanner just reported that there is a liaison meeting with the Academy at 11:00 am today so I suspect that there may be some help from them pretty soon.

Thank you for the information.

I also heard via the press conferences that are going on that the Air Force Academy is opening up their airport for the planes and helicopters fighting the fires

At the press conference Doug Lamborn said (regarding calling in federal resources) that "all commercial resources must be used up" before the feds can assist, under the law.

That is outstanding news. That fire has the potential to blow up like the High Park.
Also good info MtnGramma.

Colorado National Guard is already been called up to assist. They are currently at the High Park Fire working there. Not sure about the other ones though.
