Social media is a great resource. On a daily basis people can stay in touch and share information. In the event of an emergency, social media becomes a critical part of the emergency information system. Elk Creek Fire Department recognizes this and extends a hearty thank you to 285-Bound for being one of the leading sources of up to date community information. Thank you for maintaining this valuable community asset.
If we should have critical information to share with the community, Elk Creek will post this information to all available social media sites. While bulletin boards, such as 285-Bound allow the sharing of information in text form; documents, maps and photos are often a critical part of the information package. We’ll post these (and provide links within our messages) to the Elk Creek Fire Department web site:

and the Elk Creek Fire Department FaceBook page:

Again: Thank you for helping keep local residents informed. There is no other resource that does a better job of filling this need than online social media.
Wow, thanks ECFD, same back atcha! We absolutely agree that social media is a valuable tool, as is all of the people who listen to scanners to get first-hand information and take care in posting sensitive, critical, timely information on here, DSV, and Pinecam.
We also find it very useful to post maps and photos, and are grateful to share yours as well as those of traditional media, other social media sources, and, most personally, first-hand pictures from residents. Having the ability to share it through various online sources helps ensure that it reaches as many people as necessary, which, as we've found time and again in emergencies, is crucial to getting people evacuated safely. It's a collaborative effort that not only helps us all, but also requires us all to participate; we are grateful to be but one part in that information chain and will strive to continue to provide better and better service!
Edit to add: an important component of our services is the email alerts that everyone can sign up for. During the Lower North Fork Fire, we were the first to alert residents to possible evacuations, hours ahead of the official evacuation alert, thus giving them a qualified, but crucial, heads-up so they could make an informed decision as to whether to come home early and pack, or know to keep an eye on the developing situation. To sign up for them, click here, select Emergency Alerts, and hit Submit:

The Jeffco Sheriff's office released the report of their analysis of social media use during the Lower North Fork Fire yesterday. Lots of fantastic data contained in there.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
