Referencing “sources who have proven accurate in the past,” Rene Ritchie of the website iMore reports the next-generation iPhone and iPad mini will be announced on September 12 , with both products available for purchase on September 21. The fall release puts the phone and perpetually rumored tablet on the market in time for the holiday shopping season.

While iMore may not have much name recognition in the blogosphere, it has a strong track record in successfully reporting Apple product launch dates.

It’s all but certain that Apple will announce a new iPhone soon — the iPhone 4S is ripe for an update, and iPhone 5 rumor reports are hitting critical mass. The updated iPhone is expected to sport a smaller dock connector , larger four-inch touch screen, and a redesigned case.

Isn't the iphone basically an iPad mini? Or the iPad an iPhone Maxi?

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

The iPhone's more like a pantyliner, but Eww, don't wanna go there! rofllol

I'm curious to see the iPad mini. I LOVE my iPad, but it does get very heavy to hold, for hours of reading and especially during a presentation (I use it as a remote for my slides - it shows my notes and lets me control the slide show automatically or manually, it's totally wicked as the kid in The Incredible's would say!). I read my Kindle during the day, but my iPad at night when I need the light, and that's when I'm most tired and don't want to hold it. Propping it up doesn't work all that well while laying in bed.

I am about to switch from AT&T to Verizon (after 13 years with them: I always had better reception than hubby with AT&T at our homes, but now that I'm traveling all over the foothills, the AT&T reception is lacking more-so than Verizon). My contract is up next month, but I might hold off to check out the 5 - I don't necessarily need a bigger display, as I'll have to get a new case then too, but the slimmer look is appealing as is the new dock connector. I dislike the bulky things that are not that simple to plug in now.

No iPad Mini, but the iPod Touch is getting an upgrade, the iPod Nano is refreshed, and the earbuds are getting sleeker (that's great, cuz the big round things they have now don't even fit in my ears).

New iPhone with taller screen out next week

Apple is holding an event in San Francisco during which it announced a new iPhone, capable of faster data speeds and sporting a taller screen. It also unveiled new iTunes software and new iPod devices.

The iPhone 5 will go on sale next week. It will work with fourth-generation, or 4G, cellular networks, something Samsung's Galaxy S III and many other iPhone rivals already do.

Advance orders will start this Friday. It will start shipping on Sept. 21 in the U.S. and other countries, plus additional markets a week after that.

Older phones will get the iOS 6 upgrade for free next Wednesday.
