People feeding the wildlife gripe

In specific, a fox.

There's a fox that wanders through here every once in a while, and recently taking an interest in the chickens. Well, when they are out, a human is too, so for now, chickens are safe.

HOWEVER - my daughter went to chase it off today, and it tried to walk up to her.. She threw a small rock a few feet away to scare it - it ran to the rock like it was a treat.

SOMEONE IS FEEDING THE FOXES IN MOUNTAIN LAKES SUBDIVISION AND NEEDS TO STOP IT NOW.

This fox has no fear of humans, came back four times, and while I don't know if he's after my chickens, he is for sure looking for a handout.

If you know of anyone here or in the Woodside area feeding foxes, make them stop, If they won't stop, report them. This fox is likely going to have a hard winter with this kind of activity going on.

NOT COOL.

Oh, he also has no fear of dogs - he lounged in the yard for a time yards away from the dog run, while the dogs barked their fool heads off at him.

Most, if not all, of the foxes up here are like that as they have adapted to humans and that is the way it is. they are not stupid however, the fox knows the dogs are locked up so why should it run away? there are plenty of rodents around this summer, I doubt very much that this fox is not hunting. It is what they do, but they also are open to a handout if it is available. all wildlife is opportunistic and will take advantage of whatever opportunities are presented.

The Fox population over here in Bailey seems ok, they always run away when I am out and about. Yep, LH is right, no feeding any wildlife. There are plenty of chipmunks and squirrels around. My local fox caught a bird the other week, pretty good hunting.

The foxes on our property are also pretty scared of humans. We don't feed anything here. No hummingbirds or critters of any kind.
I am one with the foxes as they do keep our rodent population down and with so many around....I am fairly confidant that a mountain lion hasn't taken up local residency.
I agree LH?...it just isn't cool to feed the wildlife at all.
Leave nature alone.
