Consistency is a big problem with Century Link's DSL. I can check my speeds and they will very significantly. I will get 11.5 download, then check 5 minutes later and it will be 1.3. I'm paying for 12. That is the same plan we pay for when we are in AZ with century link, and it isn't any more reliable there. It isn't the mountains, or ancient lines, I think it is just them.
forgot to mention, the technician was here today, of course couldn't fix anything but apparently by Jan 2013 we should be on optic fiber at ECH. We'll see if that happens or not.
