archer wrote: My daughter was entered by her husband in a contest to receive free lasic surgery, and is one of 6 finalists. The Buckley Chang Eye Institute is offering free lasic to 3 first responders, police, firemen, or paramedics. Her husband, a police officer, had the surgery 2 years ago, and it has made a big difference in how he does his job, He wants the same freedom from glasses for his wife, my daughter, as glasses can be a liability when you are working a scene on the highway, or subduing a patient who is high on drugs or just out of control.

If you are willing, the contest is on facebook, the three finalists who get the most "likes and/or shares" will win. Please read the bios, and if it seems worthwhile to you, I, and my daughter, would sure appreciate your vote. Her name is Carrie Alarid, and here is the link

Thank you,

I'll do it Archer but I don't see why the "first responders" get all this special consideration..What I did for a living was much more important to humanity...

Get back to me when your job involves wearing a bullet proof vest in 100 degree temps, all day, you are kneeling in the lane of traffic on I25 trying to save an accident victim, you have tended to a patient when someone starts shooting at the cops while they try to protect you.......or you have lived in a tent for weeks in the swamps of Louisiana turning an open field into a mash unit so army surgeons can help those who were injured, or set up a clinic in the Super Dome with thousands of patients and your job goes on 24/7 because people in need don't stop needing long enough so you can sleep. This is what she has done for 10 years, and many many others like her......I think they all deserve anything we can help them with, and more. They don't get rich doing these jobs, and they sacrifice a lot of family time and risks to their health to do it. Many, even most, burn out on the job in 10 years, it's high stress and high risk. So don't tell me how much you have contributed to humanity till you have walked in the shoes of fire fighters, cops, or paramedics........do you drive I25? Someday my daughter may save your life if you run that fancy car off the road near Pueblo.

Thank you grandma...I am very proud of her and the career she has chosen. Through her experiences I have gained an appreciation for all those who risk their lives to take care of us and keep us safe.
