IMHO it's the same thing that posses deer to stand on the side of the road and stare down cars and trucks, I don't know what goes on in a deers head but I wonder if the thought process goes something like:
- Hey look at that, a fast moving big thing approaches. What kind of animal is that anyhow?
- I still have plenty of time to cross the road, it's not that close yet and it's not moving that fast.
- Hey, what's behind me? I better turn around and have a good look, could be a lion or a bear.
- Alright back to that fast mover coming from the other direction, better turn around again and see where it's at.
- Ok, three feet away. Time to burst across this trail and show 'em who the fastest animal in the forest is!
- BOOM! Hey look! I learned to fly! POW! Ouch, that was a bad landing and this hurts...
- Bambi? Is that you? Don't go into the light? Ok... Ouch, better getup and walk this off in the forest away from this trail.
