"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
The present day state of Cleavland and Cincinnati come to mind along with the rest of the Rust Belt. That being said, what is now called the Rust Belt used to be the heart of America's manufacturing infrastructure.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Columbus is great, and the suburbs of Cinti weren't bad, though I hear my home area is going downhill crime-wise. Downtown Cinti sucks thanks to crappy leaders for way too many years. It's been forever since I was in Cleveland (or 1993, whichever comes first!) so I have no idea what it's like now. Mainly the state sucks cuz of the weather.
Farming is still big, manufacturing in spots. The world has moved on...and they didn't keep up.

I love the Mid-West, eating is a sport and there can be no question that farmers bust their asses to make a living. Unfortunately, Generous Motors, Ford, and Chrysler just don't have the base it takes to sustain their lines of business and finance the unions at the same time.

Actually they have a done a lot to the Cleveland area in the last decade, we visit out there every summer (mom and brother live east of the city on the lake), there is nothing better than the Lake Erie shore east of Cleveland.......sand beaches, great restaurants, wineries, really not a bad place to visit....but no, I wouldn't want to live there......the weather sucks most of the year. They must be doing something right, their unemployment is lower than the national average, and lower than Colorado. Part of that is thanks to the auto bailout.
