If you call and express your concerns about losing channel 9 and 20 you will get a credit on your local channels.
You will need to go via India but then the transfer you to the US and the guy there was very nice.
Our local channels are credited for 6 months and once they get it all worked out we will be upgrading and I was able to get a few other things free for 6 months after we sign a new 24 month contract.
Not willing to sign until I know 9 is back but we do need some new receivers and we will be getting the hopper.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A dispute over fees threatens to leave more than 2 million Dish subscribers in 19 cities without access to local television stations owned by Gannett just as the fall TV season is starting.
Dish Network Corp. claims Gannett Co. is asking for a 300 percent increase in fees for the right to carry 22 Gannett stations affiliated with NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox. Gannett says it's seeking a fair deal in line with market rates.
We just signed up with Dish and have the 2 year commitment. I just hope we aren't screwed with this. And I hear it could be other network channels lost too.
All this over the Hopper which can skip commercials (and does a great job of it too)? Those are recorded programs and with any other DVR you can skip them too, but it wouldn't be as automatic. And I know Dish can disable the automatic skipping if they have to.
I was with DirecTV and they had the national networks which you could get if you couldn't get the locals. So if we could get NBC from New York (or where ever), even if we can't get Denver, that would be better than nothing. I can live without the local news assuming we have the other local channels.
Let's see what happens. This Dish vs. Gannet thing sounds like a pretty foolish arguement to me.
This is all about the two big kids on the block and they both want to be King.
Gannett can say they do not want the hopper comercail skip active on their networks and it will be blocked. There are other channels on Dish that do not allow commercail skipping.
My guess is that this will be resolved within a couple weeks they do not want to lose customers /viewers.
I have complained to both Dish and Channel 9 stating that they need to get their acts together. 9 would only give me a general email to send my complaint where Dish has actual people that explain what is going on.
I was told I could call the main Gannett offices on Tuesday (Monday is a holiday) and see if they have a better number/email.
Maybe someday these networks will figure out that their commercial ads are too excessive, repeating, annoying and have ruined TV watching. More people are tuning out and finding alternatives. I can't think of too many prime network shows I watch anyway, other than the Broncos
If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2
Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.
The "account agent" that I spoke with yesterday said her understanding is the deadline is tomorrow for no more 9 & 20 on Dish. Since I'm not charged for local channels there's not much I can do but ask her to register my comment that I'm going to contact DirectTV tomorrow. We're ticked off -- several of the new shows on 9 are interesting.
