Three days in the steepest terrain I've ever seen (Rico, CO area)
The wonderful weather (60+ degs) drove the elk up to higher altitudes.
Found lots of signs --- scrapings on the tree ---- droppings on the ground --- even a few mocking bugles. They must have been making fun of me from the cliff above me, though --- they were nowhere to be found.
Physician wins ---- I dropped my water bottle while climbing a 500 foot mountain face --- and ended up dehydrated and exhausted (yeah - I made it out --- was smart enough to turn around when I could ---- I stumbled into camp and was barely able to speak or even tie my shoe laces).
Smart choices made. Too often hunters don't get in enough training time and try to overextend themselves. One hunt I made I cramped up so bad that I had to stagger back to camp too.
