the longer I live here the more I realize the subtleties of nature. I noticed once again this morning during my walk the typical smell of the bighorn sheep, long before I could physically see them. The scent of the fox is very different and sometimes I smell him/her even without seeing. Then sometimes there is an almost putrid scent out there, that I think might be a mountain lion, but I have never seen one when I was on the trail or on my walk. depending on which location I am in, where the wind comes from and what time of day it is oftentimes I can determine exactly where the wildlife is. Very fascinating.

I can smell mice. Are they considered wildlife?

Outdoors, yes.
Indoors, they're called 'vermin' or 'cat food'.

Interesting that you can smell wildlife, I never noticed that. I thought they generally were pretty clean due to self grooming? I always look for tracks and other evidence when hiking. Haven't ever seen a Mt Lion either.

I'm not sure being able to smell various animals is really a big deal, I can smell a road kill skunk from miles away when the wind is right...

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
