More from Channel 7

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. - A wildfire burning just outside Lory State Park has prompted an emergency notification call to some residents, and about 50 evacuations.

Smoke from the 40-acre fire can be seen from downtown Fort Collins.

Poudre Fire confirmed the fire is burning on Galena Court in the Soldier Canyon area.

A fire advisement notification went out to 281 devices in the area of Soldier Canyon, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office said. While that is not a mandatory evacuation notice, officials said firefighters and deputies in the area have evacuated some residents.

The Cache la Poudre Elementary School gym in LaPorte was designated as the evacuation center and shelter, according to Larimer County. This was one of the primary shelters last year during the High Park Fire. Assistance available there includes the Red Cross.

Fire officials tweeted that one structure was involved, but they did not yet have any other information.

7NEWS viewer Carrie Katona said the wind is making the fire much worse.

Another 7NEWS viewer, Jason Speciner, said he was taking a drive in the area with his daughter when the fire started.

"We pulled right up to the Visitor Center entrance and were immediately told to leave, which we did," Speciner said. "It was there that I could see how close it [the fire] was to structures."

The information below is from Larimer County

http://www.larimer.org/emergency/emergency_detail.cfm?nam_id=97

Our fire is estimated at perhaps 800 acres. The strong gusty winds continue to be a problem. Currently there are road blocks at Lodgepole and Co. Rd 23 on the noth end of the fire and at Shoreline Drive and 38E and Skyline and 38E on the south part of the fire evac area. On the south end, people, are being allowed in with escorts to retrieve medicines, people and animals but cannot stay in their residences until the evacuation is lifted. At this time there is absolutely no information or guesses as to when that will be. We will try to keep this updated with new information when we get it and will also put emergency information on the County Emergency Info Line at 498-5500.

Additional evacuation notifications have been sent by Fort Collins for the area west of Horsetooth Reservoir on the south side and those evacuations are being conducted now. The fire is being pushed from the north by strong winds. The area affected is north of Co Rd 38e. This includes all feeder streets to Shoreline Drive in the vicinity of Inlet Bay and north up to and including the Continental Cir. area. It is not now known how many homes this involves. The evacuation center and shelter remains Cache la Poudre Elementary in LaPorte but other options may be explored as circumstances warrant.

It's only mid March and there are already wildfires. Not good, not good at all. Fingers crossed for a change in the weather pattern that brings moisture to the region and keeps it focused there until mid May! I hope I'm 100% wrong but I have a feeling that Summer 2013 is going to be very dry and plagued with too many fires.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
