BROWN SNOW

the snowfall from last night is BROWN... I have never seen this. What could cause this? I tired to get a cross section from the snow to show this. If you look at the top 1", you'll see what I mean.

There's a weird smudgish residue on all our skylights - probably the dirt left after the snow melt. Ewwww!

I remember something like this a few years ago. It was caused by a sandstorm in Arizona or something.

Nothing like that here.

Okay - so I made that up.

The snow wasnt brown earlier this morning when I was outside, but now that it has started to melt, it seems to be concentrating the "brown"

Channel 9 just had a "teaser" for a story on "dingy" snow at 10. Guess I'll set the DVR.

Thanks for the thread.

I noticed it too. Got about 8 inches of white snow yesterday, and this morning it was already melting rapidly in the sun and it had brown on the surface. Much of the snow melted during the day too.

I figured some dirt got blown in the air somewhere, but couldn't figure out where since everything around here was covered in snow.

Looking forward to an explanation...
