I also noticed that the snow which appeared to fall nice and white, as usual, became more brown with time. The longer I spent shovelling it, the more brown the top of the snow became.

I too am interested in an explanation of this.

Regardless of the actual cause, I think it would be wise to heed Frank Zappa's guidance regarding fouled snow, be it yellow or any other colour:

I'm not certain how Frank came upon these realizations but practical experience seems to be a likely source of the empirical evidence.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Even knowing the source, I would avoid eating it but you do what you want. Maybe share your results post mortem? I'm sure many want to know what brown snow tastes like but not many are willing to try it out for themselves.

Reminds me of an old commercial... "Give it to Mikey, he'll eat anything..." :rofllol

I didn't think about it until I read this thread.
I noticed when I got in my car this morning that the snow on the windshield was brown.
I just figured that my windshield was dirty and had melted into the snow but it definitely got my attention.

We've had some pretty mean winds here in AZ for the last few days.....I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the dust combined with your snow......sorry, we'll try to do better at keeping our dust contained. :happier:
