I work in the hospitality/service world on weekends here in Durango (everyone has more than 1 job - it's too darn expensive).
This past weekend, there was a wonderful family visiting where I work - and I recognized their family name as an Arab name.
They visit every year - and I've been here for 3 years ---- and they remembered that I speak (a little) Arabic, and so they greeted me in Arabic.
It absolutely made my day (we don't get to practice Arabic much in Southwest Colorado). I know my speaking (to put it diplomatically) is rusty.
I did appreciate their patience and willingness to try to refresh my memory!
This family is from the Levant region - so I doubt anyone around us realized we were speaking Arabic.
(I would not want to upset my guests).
In any event - I found out they came from Conifer! Man - it's a small world.
If any of you happen to know a friendly Lebanese family from Conifer - I really enjoyed their coming by!
Somewhat similar experience for me.....back in the 70's I was working at a medical answering service in Lakewood, Co. A new hire came
on board and since we worked the same shift,we traded life stories/experiences.....I grew up in Grand Junction (Western Slope) and
my mom and I lived on Rood ST. below the downtown area....We left in 55' and changed our lives by moving to ALASKA.
Fast forward to mid-70's and a conversation with my c0-worker.....she was describing the quaint little house she rented in G.J. and
the more she spoke of the area and the little cottage, the more I began to realize she was describing OUR little abode.......she rented
the little house right after we moved out in 55'......AMAZING.
