So the phone rang in my office at about 10:00 this morning. It was my oldest son (20) - who had an announcement. Spent the day empathizing with Steve Martin.
Am sure every parent has mixed feelings when the call comes.......
I am so not looking forward to the day my little ones start dating even (as I listened to my 5 year old on a pretend phone call on the ride home today act out an outraged scene to the boy she was calling: how dare he have a crush on someone other than her, she was deleting his number from her phone then said good bye and hung up on him...oh my...where in the world did that come from?). I can't imagine them not devoting all their time, love, and attention to their nuclear family and can only imagine the bittersweetness as they find and make a new family. I hear the grandkids are worth it, if that's any consolation.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
I always cry at weddings... Mostly because I know first hand what the groom is up against.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus
