Who is in Breach of Contract?

There are two types of contracts in the world: legal contracts and social contracts. This post isn’t about legal contract disputes; those are resolved with lawyers and judges and money. I’ve been, for the most part, on the sideline through this whole “situation” (for lack of a better term) and while there seems to be a lot of change going on, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed: Sharon’s (my Science Chic) commitment to the social contract she has with the residents of our community, local businesses, her advertisers, and the members of this site. She believes that this social contract compels us to all help make our community a better place.

Sharon got into this because she really feels that she can make a difference in the lives of the people and businesses in the area. That has not changed one iota since the day she decided to invest in an on-line business. It's also important to point out that this website is only one of the many ways in which she contributes to bettering our community. She’s volunteers her time, records and publishes community meetings so that those who can’t attend can still be involved, champions local issues, is active in the Chamber of Commerce, leads up efforts to boost tourism, and invests locally. The recent upgrades were done for our community, to provide a better on-line experience for you and to provide better visibility to local businesses, not for the sole purpose of making more money.

Sharon’s always had a strong moral compass and is grounded in facts and logic. She believes in doing the right thing even when it's hard to do. She still runs people down in a store when our kids door ding their cars in the parking lot to let them know what happened; even if no one would know if she just drove off. When a restaurant leaves something off the bill, she calls it out and never has the attitude that it’s their mistake and in not paying they are getting what they deserve. She crosses people at times, but always has a strong foundation for doing what she does and takes the time to explain why she acts the way she acts and is always transparent.

That integrity and honesty is what will make her come out ahead and make MyMountainTown successful. But not everyone else has the same morals, integrity, or views as her. In a world where the norm is to not take accountability for your actions, to blame others and to take things because you think you are entitled to them, Sharon is a breath of fresh air and this is on of the things I most admire about her.

So while the legal battle over the right and wrong between MyMountainTown and “the other site” (using their words) will continue, I know that Sharon’s social contract with the community, with you, will continue, unchanged. Because for everything that she’s put into the community she has always got 10-fold more in return. She’s not bound to make a difference in the community. She IS making a difference in the community.

These are not her words, but those of a somewhat biased, and anything but impartial, third party who is in a position to see, 24x7, how much she cares about the people, businesses, and community and how hard she works to help our community grow and prosper. Dealing with this issue has gone on too long and taken up too much of our energy. Too much negative energy. It's time to start building up this site and once again focusing on making our community a better place.

Well said. And from another "grounded in fact and logic" person, I couldn't agree more.

I'm also at a point where it is time to refocus on positive thoughts and energies. Let's get back to rebuilding!

:like:

I've always been impressed with all the effort Sharon has put into her website, not to mention the local community as well. If I had a business, I'd be proud to advertise here.

Positive thoughts for what is right! :happier:

"When they first show you who they are,BELIEVE them."...one is ethical and one is questionable....the picture is VERY clear to me and my choice is easy...I would first like
to extend THANKS to the founder of such a unique and valuable concept....Wayne. Secondly
my gratitude is extended to JMC for taking the concept and REMOVING the obstacles that
that hindered lively exchanges of opinions.....and thirdly my admiration and SUPPORT go to
SC for taking the challenge/labor of love in nurturing and growing the concept to it's FULLEST
potential and providing a place for posters to feel RESPECTED and valued. GOOD JOB,GIRL!

Oh brother...Try telling that to a judge. The words on the contract are the only thing that matters, and you can't change a contact after the fact because "its not fair!" or because "I worked hard on this!" or because "I care more about the children!" I mean "the community" than she does

And how in the world does a grown man get all wound up in this soap opera? Im embarassed to even read this crap- I don't know how'd i'd feel about myself if I wrote it...

Have you read the whole contract VL? If not, your opinion is just that, an opinion that is based on speculation and very possibly misinformation.

I can see why you can't relate to how a "grown man" would handle this.

I thought VL was a teenager holed up in his parents basement with no adult supervision. Dang!
