Oh brother...Try telling that to a judge. The words on the contract are the only thing that matters, and you can't change a contact after the fact because "its not fair!" or because "I worked hard on this!" or because "I care more about the children!" I mean "the community" than she does
And how in the world does a grown man get all wound up in this soap opera? Im embarassed to even read this crap- I don't know how'd i'd feel about myself if I wrote it...
I can see why you can't relate to how a "grown man" would handle this.

I also agree with the gist of the thread, illustrating the value of our social contracts and suggesting that at the end, the most important contract is a spiritual one.

Your stock is plummeting CK...The courts don't go in for all this fancy-full thinking..Its a black and white issue. And seriously...... the message board, any message board doesn't really do anything for the "community" accept allow people to vent on eachother, and chasing a bunch of sponsers for your message board is hardly serving the community...Hows that an honorable persuit? You people are insane and the taking sides and fighting pretend wars is childish...

ColoradoKathy wrote: VL, I'm not focused on the value of my stock, that's why I agreed with the gist of the thread, but agree with you that the contract is what(ever) it is notwithstanding SC's having met the social contract that the OP commended her upon.
My perception is that the community has found a certain degree of common ground and that this site will go forward albeit with perhaps less Oomp at the start-up than SC had hoped, meanwhile other posters have stepped up to try to give the Oomp a little boost. "All's fair..." and all that.

And I agree 100% that it's not about the legalities, it's about what's right and how we treat one another, support one another, call each other out when we see wrong for the sake of fairness, and do our best to make this whole community thrive.
VL, I disagree that this message board doesn't do anything for the community. It allows us all a voice - to discuss issues that affect us personally like the Lower North Fork Fire, the upcoming Elk Creek Fire mill levy, the incinerator at Shaffer's Crossing, how best to support a member when one of their family passes on, when and where to get together and build stronger bonds of friendship in person, find out who needs a Barnraising, or when we see corruption at the local government level or in a local organization and need them to know we will shine a light on that until it's fixed. It takes caring individuals to observe a problem and try to make changes, like what happened at IMHS a couple of years ago, but it requires the ability to inform everyone else that there is an issue in order to build enough strength to make it happen.
We don't "chase" sponsors, they come here voluntarily because they see value in being here. This site offers a great opportunity to local businesses to market to their local customer base. Through everything else that we and our awesome volunteers do, like posting scanner info, calendar events, providing webcams that no one else has, videotaping local meetings so everyone can stay informed, and having a place for the community to "talk", they see that this is the place to be.
We are a positive force in this community and they want to be associated with that - they pay us to promote them, and we in turn re-invest it in our community. We've sponsored thousands of dollars in many community events over the last two years (Barefoot, Bluegrass & BBQ Festival, Bailey Day, PCACC Scholarship Fund Silent Auction, Conifer Christmas Parade, Conifer Newcomers & Neighbors Holiday Silent Auction, and more), given much in donations of items and cash to local nonprofit organizations, and donated hundreds of hours of time for them. In turn, we just encourage all of you to patronize those wonderful Business Partners who allow us to continue to do what we do and to help our local businesses continue to thrive, and to help support the amazing local nonprofit organizations that we've found are run efficiently, effectively, and with much love and devotion to the members of this community in need.
This message board is so much more than just a place for people to vent - it's a place to bring the mountain communities together. It's a place to find new friends, learn about businesses you didn't even know existed so you don't have to go down the hill for them, and to discover what organizations you can turn to for help when you need it. And that is where the true value lies, in making connections and sharing knowledge.
