Apparently poaching is an ongoing problem in many areas including Burland. There are two men, grown men who live near each other and have been poaching for years year round in Upper Burland. They leave feed out for the deer. They don't shoot the deer because that would make too much noise. And they work at night and early mornings. Their favorite areas to pursue are the nearby national forest and the draw on Lair Lane and the west side of Mockingbird Trail. Trespassing doesn't bother them one bit. Juvenile deer are a favorite because they can remove them quickly from the area. We haven't been able to catch them in the act but when caught on other people's property they say they know the owners which may very well be true that they know the owners but they don't have permission to be on the property or to poach. Please if you see anyone prowling around or poaching especially on Mockingbird, Eagle and Ptarmigan, or the national forest when not in season, contact the Sheriff's Dept first as they can respond faster and then ask them to contact Division of Wildlife.
Please keep in mind that some homeowners do draw tags for hunting on their own property from September 1 to Jan 31 of the next year and have every right to hunt their own property and other properties with permission during daylight hours and for specific wildlife but it doesn't mean juveniles, hunting at night or on other people's property w/o permission or drawing them in by feed.
I am not familiar enough with how this website works, so mods if mentioning street names is not appropriate please remove. Thank you.
An edit. I forgot to mention that we know there was poaching when the guts were left behind and it was out of season. Now they have gotten smarter and moved to smaller animals that they can carry out without leaving the innards and we see only blood and other details that indicate poaching.
I have not heard of any poaching here in DCVR. I do hear gunshots from time to time but assume it is target shooting, which is allowed in the subdivision when appropriate safety precautions are taken.
Trash bags left out may just be the stupidity of a new mountain dweller. That tends to cure itself when they have to buy a new garage door or incur some sort of damage to themselves.
