School Closures/News Update: Evergreen, Indian Hills

Jeffco Schools has announced that buses may be running late in Evergreen and Conifer.

Update 8:20am:
Law enforcement is asking Jeffco Schools to close EHS. Students who were bused to EHS will be transported by bus to Evergreen Middle School. Parents please pick up your students as soon as possible.

In addition, Wilmot Elementary is now closed - parents must immediately go pick up their students.

"NEW SCHOOL INFO: Wilmot Elementary and Evergreen High School kids are being bused to Conifer High School (since they couldn't get to EMS because of road closings) and parents should pick them up there. They will need to present ID. Kids who drove to school were instructed to go home. Questions -- call the bus terminal at 303-982-5215."

Parmalee ES in Indian Hills is now closing.School was already on a modified schedule for the day.

I believe I just heard that due to a bridge being washed out on Upper Bear Creek that I think they are going to keep the kids at Outdoor Lab Mt Evans location this week and shelter in place over the weekend. Making preparations to get provisions up to last the weekend via Clear Creek emergency personnel.

Wow! Fun for the kids, I'm sure a tad stressful for their parents.

IMPORTANT message for the parents of THOMSON & SWANSON sixth-graders who are at the Mt. Evans Outdoor Lab School. The road going to Mt. Evans through Evergreen is impassable. Because of that, we will not be able to get buses to the school to pick up the students. All of the students are safe and will be cared for by staff. There is plenty of food available on site for the students. We are working with law enforcement to determine when the road might be passable. Please do not try to get to the school – the Colorado Department of Transportation is telling people to avoid travel on roads in and near Evergreen. Once again, all students are safe, warm and dry at the Mt. Evans school. We will give you updates as we get them from law enforcement. Thank you for your understanding.

New update from Jeffco Public Schools:

ATTENTION ~ This is an updated message for parents of Swanson and Thomson Elementary sixth-graders who are currently at Mt. Evans Outdoor Lab School ~ the lab schools have pre-determined evacuation routes and law enforcement has checked the evacuation route from Mt. Evans and determined it can be hiked safely ~ there is currently a break in the weather and at this time, no rain is anticipated in the next few hours ~ students have food and water with them, as well as adults and high school leaders ~ We will be in contact with the staff and students during the hike to the road ~ we will have Jeffco buses waiting for the children when they reach the highway ~ We will continue to update you to their progress. Thank you.

I'll bet there are plenty of disappointed kids (and relieved parents) right now. Kudos to Outdoor Lab staff and Jeffco emergency personnel who made that happen.

ATTENTION ~ This is a message for Evergreen Middle School families. There are several buses running late today in dropping off students. The buses are being re-routed because regular routes are closed or impassable. The bus numbers are 27, 31 and 42. Students who ride those buses will be approximately 40 minutes late in arriving home. Parents of those students are being contacted by the school. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
