What are your favorite old movie/radio/tv programs? I like the Little Rascals:

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus
My fav TV program doesn't go that far back. The Wonder Years was a whimsically, often times
wistful look backward, when things seemed to be simpler and more straightforward.....poignant,
yet funny and just all around GOOD entertainment. A CLOSE second is MASH,the last segment
brought everyone to their knees....oh yes, remember Hill Street Blues....and Cagney and Lacey
those were GREAT cop shows.....
My Dad had a steamer trunk full of old movies and a projector, he'd break them out on special occasions and the family would gather around to watch movies. Another favorite of mine:

Good post! As a matter of fact, I'm watching #11 of the Dick Van Dyke Show as I type this! (does this confirm I have no life on Friday nights????)
I have a Roku box so I can access many of the oldies. Like homeagain, I also love The Wonder Years. Even though I was just a glimmer in my father's eyes when the Dick Van Dyke show came out, I remember being very little and watching them with my mom and dad. Now, I enjoy watching an episode or two before I climb into bed at the end of the day. The intro music makes me so homesick for the days my sisters and I would take turns having our mother brush our hair while we watched tv together. It also reminds me of how sweet and innocent life was way back when. The other show I still enjoy is the Carol Burnett show. She and crew were so darn funny!
Hogan's Heroes (yes, I was around back then...barely)

Hubby and son are watching Guns of Navarone downstairs...
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
I grew up on a farm in a remote Michigan town in the upper peninsula, when you heard a weird noise in the middle of the night the actions were/are limited to go check it out and shoot it if you have to or ignore it and hope nothing bad happens. Go shoot it is the default.

*chuckling* When I heard scary things at night I would grab my blankets and cover my head. I was sure if I couldn't see it then certainly it couldn't see me!!
The protocol in our family fell to the youngest male who was 12 years old or older and knew how to safely operate a shotgun. 11 year olds got to go on hunting trips and the big deal was harvesting a goose/duck/pheasant or several of the same on your first trip. At 12 years of age most boys and girls were/are considered to be educated and safe operators of firearms in my family.
Crazy noises in the middle of the night at my parent's house back in the day? Dad would call out "Otis, did you hear that?" I would answer "Yes sir, I'm pretty sure it was a squirrel or a raccoon running across the roof...." Dad would respond by saying "Go take care of it so I don't have to help you get the job done, the rest of us need to sleep because we have work to do in the morning (like I didn't have work to do in the morning). Meanwhile I'm convinced that Pappy never slept a night in his life... That's a story for another time.
Never mind that, watch this:

"Call the Midwife" isn't from the past, but it is about the past. It's a fairly new BBC series that is aired on PBS, although I watch it on Netflix. It's mid-century east end London and it has me addicted. I gave my sister-in-law Season 1 and 2 on DVD for her birthday...she's addicted too! Season 2 started this week on Netflix. I'm saving them up for when I'm socked in here during our long, cold winter nights. Chumley is my favorite actress! What I like best are the songs they play at the end of each show - always from that era. It puts me in such a good place. I highly recommend it.
