Indian Hills residents protest bond issue for new fire station
Fire district mill rate would double, according to estimates

Indian Hills residents sharply criticized a proposed bond issue for a new fire station, which would double the current mill rate in their district, during a community meeting Oct. 17.

According to fire board members and Indian Hills Fire Chief Emery Carson, the current building is in need of major renovations and is inadequate to house vehicles and equipment. They also say that the cost of repairs to the current station is projected at $1.5 million — about half the cost of building a new one.

However, the bond issue would add approximately 12 mills to the current mill rate of 12.14 for residents — a rate that is already among the highest in the area for fire districts.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
