Wanted to also send out a loving THANK YOU to my Dad who is a WWII vet and is 87 years young!!!
My father served on the USS Bennington he entered the service when he was 15 and even changed the spelling of our last name so it would fit on the forms.
My father is retired military and suffered Tuberculosis while serving which led to the removal of half his lung. He also suffered hearing loss due to his time in the service.
I love listening to his stories of the time he spent in the service!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks you to all my family that have served and are currently serving in the military and thank you to all the men and women out there you will always have a special place in my heart!!!
Nobody that matters wrote: I recorded my Father-in-law's stories. He was a WWII vet. I'm glad we did now that we've lost him.
My grandpa served as British light infantry in WWII near Tobruk & El Alamein. Captured 4 times, escaped 3. His captors nicknamed him "Kleine Schwarze Teufel". He was very short and a mischievous man while a captive and his skin showed all of the desert sun. He never spoke about it with my mom or my grandma, ever. Then one year when I was in 8th grade he spoke about his experience at my school. Later that next day he recorded about 6 hours of tape and then never spoke of it again.
Wish I woulda been lookin around in here the last couple days. Didn't even dawn on me. Absolutely, 110%, THANK YOU Vets. S-T-N-T-S. I have and have had family and friends in all facets of the Armed Forces and know where their true loyalties lie, and it isn't with D.C, it's to all of us. Right off hand, my brother in law was in the Army, infantry in Iraq for two years and Afghanistan for one. Him and the oldest of my two sisters just moved out here from Missouri and things are great. He was honorably discharged a few years ago as a Sergeant. All ya'll grunts know where you stand with Jekyll. :memorial:
