I just learned about this and will definitely be donating; what a great idea!
Deputy Hugs Program
Deputy Hugs Program for troubled children:
Studies have shown that no single object calms a troubled child as quickly as a teddy bear. "Deputy Hugs" bears work with the Victim Services Unit, comforting frightened young victims of crisis or crime.
The program, which began in 1991, works as follows: for a donation of $20, you can adopt "Deputy HUGS" for yourself or your child. At the same time, your donation will bring a "Deputy Hugs" into the life of a child in need.
Deputies carry the bears in their patrol cars and give them to troubled children whenever appropriate.
Donations:
Our "Adopt-a-Bear for a Child's Sake" program takes community participation to be successful. Thank you for your support.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
The bears are in a Jeffco green t-shirt that reads "I got hugs from Jefferson County Sheriff's Department" in gold lettering. Don't know if they still do it, but at one time you could purchase a bear for yourself, but the t-shirt was white with green lettering saying that you supported the program. There were also key rings and a variety of other things you could purchase.
