:droolpuddle: I guess he did do something right after all! What would be your favorite potent potable to celebrate with?
Right now, hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps sound like a tasty combo.

Far Niente Cab is sounding good to me! We're going to have hot chocolate and peppermint schnapps at the Conifer Christmas Parade the day after tomorrow - I'll bet it's a hot seller! ;) (We've also got Hot Apple Cider with Fireball Whiskey too, for those who don't do dairy).

Prohibition was the stupidest move ever, glad it was repealed long before now. I'd miss my wine! lol

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

You wouldn't have missed you wine under prohibition unless you wanted to. The vineyards in California sold "wine bricks" as a non-alcoholic and non-intoxicating grape juice concentrate, in many varieties I might add, that came with instructions on them to make sure you didn't put the reconstituted juice into a jug and into the cupboard for 20 days, because then it would turn into wine.

Or you just become Catholic, right?

My uncle was a prison chaplain and doubled Mass attendance when he started offering both hosts and wine.

If it wasn't a school night or if we had a really big storm dropping a couple of feet of snow happening right now I's whip up a small batch of...

HOT BUTTERED RUM

Ingredients:

2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 pinch salt
2 quarts hot water
3 cinnamon sticks
6 whole cloves
6 cups rum, you can use the cheap stuff but the high quality dark rums make a better finished product
ground nutmeg to taste

Procedure:

Combine the brown sugar, butter, salt and hot water in 5 quart sauce pot. Add cinnamon sticks and cloves. Cover and cook on low for an hour, you want some reduction but you're not trying to make a syrup. Stir in rum.

Ladle from the pot into mugs, and top with a dusting of nutmeg. Whipped cream is a nice touch if you have ladies visiting but not required.

Plop down in your favorite chair, preferably close to the fireplace, sip a couple of mugs of hot buttered rum and take a nap!

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus
