MOST Magical Movie about the Holidays

Two of my favorites are "The Family Stone" with Sara Jessica Parker and Diane Keaton....story
is centered around the Holidays and one of the sons is bringing home his girlfriend/soon to be
fiance......EXCEPT the family does NOT like her AND she is Mismatched with the wrong son.The
issue of a Tight knit family (with one of the sons being gay and deaf and the mother (Diane
Keaton) is dying of breast cancer......makes for some high drama, some great laughs and in the
end a story of love,ACCEPTANCE and reflection.....

The second is a made for TV movie called "The Gathering" (circa 1977 or later)....Ed Asner and
Maureen Stapleton are the family matriarch/patriarch.....the theme is striking similar.....FAMILY
struggling with Mother/Father's Divorce (for many years) and the children's contempt for the
father.....UNTIL one holiday season they (the family) are confronted with a choice.....FORGIVE
and move forward or remain mired in hate......the catalyst is the father's pending fatal illness &
his desire/wish that the family come together for THIS holiday....the CAVEAT??? The mother
can NOT tell her children WHY she would like to share THIS holiday with the entire family.

EACH adult child must come to their decision (to attend) or not........

It's A Wonderful Life. A guy who saw all his childhood dreams smashed as he is forced into the yoke of that dusty old savings and loan. Questioning his life and thinking the world would be a better place without him, finding redemption, and learning that his sacrifices helped out thousands of people.

The Family Stone? The wife and I liked that one but my parents just saw it and they just found it so cliche liberal. The NPR bag toters and dope smokers.

I prefer the humorous films that don't go completely overboard with the drama.
Holiday in handcuffs is a good one.

White Christmas
Miracle on 34th street
The Bishop's Wife is good because Cary Grant and David Niven are so good in their roles.
I like the Santa Clause movies - so do the kids.
Various versions of A Christmas Carol - The Muppets have a good one :)
Of course the animated/claymation/stopmotion ones - Santa, Rudolf, Frosty, Peanuts...
