EVERGREEN —Evergreen Fire and Rescue will be the main dispatch center for at least five other mountain agencies after the Jefferson County Emergency Communications Authority authorized the initial funding to handle the extra load.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has been dispatching for Jeffco fire departments in addition to its own law enforcement. It will continue to be the 911 call center and will forward mountain fire events to Evergreen dispatch.
So far, the Elk Creek, Intercanyon, Indian Hills, Foothills and North Fork fire protection districts have agreed to make the switch, according to Weege.
The authority will begin by paying Evergreen for its dispatch services in the first year. The districts will be responsible for paying for their own services in increasing increments of 25 percent per year. That means that by 2018, agencies will be covering those costs in full.
