All the local news channels are reporting that if you used your credit or debit cards at Target from black Friday through December 15th you should cancel the cards or at a minimum make sure you have contacted your card companies and put a fraud alert on them.

40 million cards compromised! That is a significant percentage of American consumers. More than 10%.

As soon as I heard of the breach I checked my credit card account - so far so good, but I plan on checking it frequently for a while.

Received an email from Target.com this morning telling of the problem and suggested steps to take "take to protect yourself against potential misuse of your credit and debit information". The mentioned how to put a freeze on my account and gave contact info for the 3 credit reporting agencies.

And my email provider had a yellow "caution" bar across the top of the email that said "Caution: This message may be a scam". lol
